The goals of the Division of Laboratory Animal Research Center are to establish a genetic resource platform and a quality management system for laboratory animals. Various laboratory animals, especially the specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens, SPF ducks, SPF minipigs have been bred. Particularly, six chicken major histocompatibility complex (MHC) –B complex haplotypes are determined both by sequence certification of functional genes and genotypes of 6 microsatellite DNA loci located within MHC region. |
These are the first SPF MHC-B chicken breeds reported in China. The SPF ducks, including HBK-B and HBK-Q two lines, have been propagated in HEPA (high efficiency particulate air filter) isolators for 6 generations and free from 10 major duck infectious diseases up to now. The microinjection techniques used to produce transgenic chicken, mice, and pigs have been developed. The divisions affiliated lab is authorized to perform inspection, supervision and monitoring of laboratory animals quality, the breeding facilities, environment, and feed nutrition. Other major scientific researchers are focused on developing diagnostic reagents for laboratory animal diseases, such as the rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease, canine distemper and etc., by using PCR, ELISA, molecular biological techniques, and so on.
